14 for 2014

As we all look back on what was and what wasn’t in 2014, I like to relive the year through photos. While the world seemed to be on fire, I chose to focus my work on projects close to “home” in Maine and Virginia this year. I wrapped up shooting my Ebb & Flow project and began exploring my next chapter around the subject of water. While this chapter is still undefined, there are a few images below that are part of some ideas I’m playing with.

During the summer I began a project with Somerset Woods Trustees, a Maine land trust, protecting properties in Somerset County for the benefit of the public. I grew up in the county so it was a treat to work with them and learn more about the natural resources they are conserving for future generations. Back in Virginia I continued to explore new personal projects between assignments, printing and video editing.

May 2015 bring you and those around you peace, meaningful work and friendship. Here are my 14 favorite photos from 2014:

James K. Small Your photography is amazing. If you are ever home in East Madison for a visit I have two groups of photography students and would love to have you come by to speak as a successful woman and photographer. I hope you have a great year. Jim Small
